Today, FIFA released the results of this month’s international exam for player agent licenses. Georgi Zahariev successfully passed the test and is now an officially FIFA licensed player agent.

What’s Changed and Why It Matters:

Starting this year, FIFA introduced mandatory licensing for anyone wishing to continue working as a football agent in global football. Georgi Zahariev was previously licensed, but the process was overseen by local federations. A criminal record check and registration form were sufficient to become an agent.

To control the process and raise professional standards, FIFA introduced a mandatory exam this year, held simultaneously worldwide on April 19th. According to today’s results, 3,800 people took the test in 138 countries, with only 1,962 passing. This represents a roughly 50% success rate.

The exam was available in English, Spanish, or French and covered 600 pages of FIFA legal regulations, provisions, and rules, specifically:

  • FIFA Football Agent Regulations
  • Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players
  • FIFA Disciplinary Code
  • FIFA Code of Ethics
  • Rules Governing the Procedures of the Players’ Status Committee and the Dispute Resolution Chamber
  • FIFA Statutes

The exam consisted of 20 questions, with a minimum passing score of 75%. In Bulgaria, 31 people took the exam, and public information on who else passed, besides Georgi Zahariev, is not yet available.

After October, it will be illegal and against FIFA rules for players, clubs, and coaches to work with unlicensed football agents. The role of a football agent is crucial in a player’s career development, including finding new clubs, negotiating contracts, personal development, and securing sponsorships. It is essential for young players to carefully choose their agent.
